How is life similar (or dissimilar) to a "Choose your own Adventure" book?

You know, the kind where you get to choose the next plot twist and "turn to page 36" to see the result ...

A stupid question, I know. But I'm interested to see what kind of similarities or dissimilarities people can come up with.

Similar - the single greatest power we posess is the power to choose.

Dissimilar - external factors, situations, environmental concerns also control which page we are on.

I think life is its own adventure book. But my thought is...is it really a choice of ending if it's predestined? I mean I know you choose to follow God's will but He already knows whats ahead, we don't. Does that make any sense?

Hey Jake, just cyberstalking you to see what's goin' on and ran across this entry...

I don't feel that life is similar to a Choose Your Own Adventure book. For one, you can never flip back to page 19 after page 36 ended up with you driving off of a cliff - life's just not like that.

Second, I don't think our choices come up and smack us in the face at regular intervals or every page. Sure, the obvious ones do, but we make small choices every instant and often make really big choices without ever knowing it or realizing the full extent of our actions.

I remember checking out a CYOA book, making my decisions and ended up dead in a cave. I didn't go back and start over. I returned the book to the library and thought, "Well, I read that one. What's next?" Life IS like that though. Whatever choices, etc - we always look to what's next.

Take that comment Biblically or literally. I'm babbling. Hope all is well, my friend.

wow yeah, that's a loaded question. i think that God knows what is going to happen, but because we don't know what God knows it is still free will and our choice...still, hard to think about...but on a different note, you really made me want want to go check out some choose my own ending books. Those were some of my favorites!!
